Fingerprint Development and Examination

Fingerprint is an indentation of ridges and valleys present on the surface of a person’s finger. No two fingerprints are alike even in identical twins which makes fingerprints vital in forensic investigation. Fingerprints have been used as credible tools to solve crimes by forming a link between crime scene, victim and perpetrator. Forensic Fingerprint professionals study various characteristics of fingerprints like patterns (arch, whorl and loop) coupled with minute characteristics such as delta, fork, bifurcations, etc for the identification.
At the crime scene, fingerprints can be present on various surfaces, tools, articles or objects such as door handles, walls, containers which makes locating and collecting these fingerprints a critical task. Sometimes a fingerprint expert deals with an invisible fingerprint also known as latent fingerprint and for their development they had to use certain light sources or physical and chemical techniques. 
Forensic fingerprint Experts periodically handle civil cases as well where fingerprint evidence has been involved such as on wills, property documents, bank documents, contracts and so on.
